Why Packaging Matters

Brazil nuts have a relatively high oil content, which makes them more sensitive to oxidation and moisture uptake than lower-oil commodities. Packaging format directly affects shelf life, handling during transit, and how easily a shipment integrates into your own warehouse and production process — it is a specification decision, not just a logistics detail.

Common Commercial Formats

Wholesale tree nuts are typically supplied in one of a small number of formats across the industry:

• Multi-wall paper or jute bags — a traditional bulk format, generally lower cost, offering less protection against moisture and oxygen than sealed alternatives.
• Vacuum-sealed bags or cartons — removes most air from the package, slowing oxidation and extending shelf life relative to an unsealed bag.
• Modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) — replaces air with an inert gas (typically nitrogen) to further slow oxidation, common for higher-value or longer-transit shipments.

Which format applies to a specific order should be confirmed directly with your supplier — packaging varies by product line and order size, and should not be assumed from general industry practice.

Pallet Configuration

A pallet is built up from a number of individual bags or cartons, and the exact configuration (units per pallet, pallet dimensions, gross weight) determines how many pallets fit in a given container size and how the order integrates into your warehouse racking. Ask for this configuration at quotation stage if it affects your logistics planning — it is normal information for a supplier to confirm per order rather than publish as a fixed universal figure.

What to Confirm With a Supplier

• Packaging type (bag, carton, vacuum-sealed, or MAP)
• Unit weight per bag/carton
• Units per pallet, and pallet dimensions
• Whether packaging can be adjusted for your specific order
• Labeling — lot/batch identification on each unit
